Our History
Formerly called ‘UTSUWA NO YAKATA’, was established in 1993 at Yaohan Plaza, afterward named Oriental City, in North London (Colindale). The shop has gained its reputation by introducing Japanese food culture to European customers.
After the closure of Oriental City in 2008, the shop has moved to Pacific Plaza in Wembley as a tenant. In 2011, another decision was taken to open an independent shop in Harrow Weald to maximise its unique world of ‘Doki’.
The founder of the company, Mr and Mrs Tomita, were born in Mino district where most big pottery manufacturers in Japan are located. They hope to be a bridge between the UK and Japan by presenting Japanese tableware to as many customers as possible.
